Alleppey
Was it Picturesque Canals, the backwaters or the beaches and lagoons that prompted Lord Curzon to call Alleppy or Alapuzha the Venice of the East? Houseboats, locally called Kettuvallams are the most popular attractions for both local and international visitors. People often spend more than a week or more in a houseboat.
It is also home of the famed Nehru boat race (which you would be miserably missing), held on the second Saturday of August. (more on Nehru boat race: http://nehrutrophy.nic.in)

Reaching Alleppey
By Air: Cochin International Airport is the nearest airport, and is a 2 hour drive from the town. This is the fourth busiest Airport in India and best in terms of service and passenger amenities.
The best option to reach Alleppey from the airport is to take a taxi to Cochin and then take a bus or train to Alleppey. By any means, it normally takes only an hour to travel between Cochin and Alleppey.
By train: Alleppey is well connected by railways, with connections from all major cities in India. Lots of trains that go further South also pass through Alleppey.
By bus: There are lots of private and government bus services from other cities like Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad etc. When it comes to buses, as long as you are in some town or city in Kerala, you wouldn’t need to worry. KSRTC connects all major towns and cities quite efficienty. The frequency too is pretty good. There are also AC buses that ply between important tourist destinations.
Unconference Venue
Alleppey has been hosting conferences and corporate meetings on houseboats for quite some time now. Earlier this year, the Indian Navy top brass had a confidential meeting on a Houseboat here.
Our Houseboat is courtesy of Kerala Tourism. The boarding point would be notified later by email or on our blog. BlogCampKerala is currently inviting corporates and companies who are interested in sponsoring the event. Please get in touch with the organizers for more information on the same.
